What is an easy way to play amazon s3 audio files on your blog?

I did a little research, and if I am not misunderstanding what I read, this is what I found out for you on audio streamed from Amazon S3: you set up your audio as usual, but you put the whole url, complete with http:// as the source of the audio.

Robert Plank’s audio player plugin, just like his camtasia video plugin is built to use files on the same domain in a set folder, but I bet the plugins can be tweaked, easily, to use the whole url of the audio as the source.

In my research I found one paid and one not paid resource. The paid is Mike Stewart’s software, S3 media player, you must become a member of his paid site… or a plugin called micro audio for wordpress… I like the last one, very small footprint, very flexible.

I wonder what Robert will say about that… it could be an opening for him, maybe, for another great plugin. Robert?

How did I remove the iframe the hackers put on my index pages

I am getting a lot of questions on how to remove the iframes that got hacked onto the index pages, whether index.php, index html, or default.html

It is actually relatively easy, and I'll show you two methods, one with using ftp and the other using your file manager that comes with cpanel.

Life got suddenly very busy... my students are suddenly producing results... yaaay.

Anyway, here are two ways to recognize and remove the iframes from your index pages.

Method 1: ftp.

ftp into your your site's root level and sort your documents by date.

you may notice that my index.php file was changed on September 5.

This is a blog, and you don't change the index file... ever. so this must have been the hackers' target.

Now, from the result you'll see that this wasn't a manual hacker, it was a little mindless robot sent out the wreak havoc...

the above index.php file is the healthy file that comes with your wordpress blog installation. it starts with

that is how it should be.

on the above index.php file, please observe the last line. after the closing ?> there is a whole line of code... that is the code you need to remove.

this is how the whole line looks... Save and upload your file and you are done.

The second category of files that got hacked are files that have body tags in them... they can be both php or html files. the commonality is that they contain a body tag, that looks like this

Sometimes after the tag. It is still a starting body tag.

you need to delete the line that has the iframe tag .

Third important thing: folder or directory dates also change when files change inside. So if you have subdirectories that have a newer date, please check the index files inside... I found 202 infected files, because my sites have many subdirectories.

All my sites on Hostgator got attacked by iframe hack

At 7 pm tonight my students emailed me that our blog was down.

I checked immediately for an attack, and found that all the index.php and index.html files were altered an 18:46 EST, and a line of code was added either after the starting body tag or at the very end of the code

do not go there...

I googled the topic and found that some Russian hackers have created keylogger sites and the keylogger scripts get all your passwords.

If it is an individual site: your password was compromised.

I have sites on other servers, like this site, and none of those were attacked. I think it is Hostgator that is compromised... so if you have a site on hostgator, please check your index files... and clean them.

I hear in Italy tens of thousands of computers are infected... as a result of the iframe hack that effects every site, but especially wordpress blogs.

This time the database isn't attacked, only the files. It seems that they get to the sites with ftp... if you can, please change your ftp and cpanel login. I am planning on removing my sites from hostgator.com

How to change your wordpress admin password

If you have your computer generated password, you can change it to something you CAN remember this way:

OK, here is what you do: log into your admin area and to your dashboard (if you have your admin password).
On the far right, right next to the plugins you’ll find a link to “users”. Find the list of users, the first one is the admin.
Click on the word “admin” and it will take you to a page where at the bottom of the page you can put in a new password to replace the one that the installer has given you.

Easy as pie.

If you lost your admin password but still have access to your cpanel:
The newer versions of wordpress don't allow you to change your password in a normal change password form, like before... quite screwy if you ask me.

Why screwy? because the password the wordpress installation creates for you, if you don't use Fantastico, is one of those computer generated passwords... you can't remember it.

The other times when you need to change the password is when you forgot it... or don't want to give access to an old pal... whatever. I think wanting to change the password is quite legitimate.

Anyway, I bought a blogsite on ebay, and the seller didn't remember the admin password, so I had to figure it out for myself.

If you have a php-myadmin access to your mysql databases, and you know how to browse and edit values, then you can change your admin password.
Go to phpmyadmin through your cpanel, select the correct database from the drop down menu, and select the wp-users table. cick "browse", select the user "admin" and click on the pencil to edit the values there.

You'll see that the password is encoded. Bummer, but don't fret, the encoding is a known format, called MD5 Hash and there is a site on the web that can encode your password for you so that you can paste the new one over the old one. go to http://www.zappersoftware.com/Help/md5.php and type your password into the password field. click the submit button and voila, your encoded password is done. You'll have to copy the 3rd row, the md5 hash format and paste it into your password field in phpmyadmin. For the time being, save it in a text file...

go to your phpmyadmin area and select the correct database, and then select the whole database

in the right frame click the browse symbol in the same row where wp_users are

you'll see that next the the user, admin, the password is encoded.
Click on the pencil (edit) icon

on the next screen replace the long gibberish that is on the same row as user_pass with your saved encoded md5 hash password.

click save and test in the login area...

If you followed the instructions you should be able to log in with the new password. Of course you will use the unencoded password on the login page.

I posted a "note" on my facebook profile today... on the universal law, The Law of Process, that is dismissed by millions of wannabees... and that may be the most important insight I have ever had with regards to why people don't act in spite of their lofty dreams.

And then later today I heard Jim Edwards' inspired rant about the same thing... using his own going-to-the-gym as an example of how one can actually take action on what they want... in his case, go to the gym and work out, seriously.

And I also heard his resigned "ehh" off camera at the end of the video.

We, coaches, all feel that way. We want you to succeed... we can take you to the water, but we can't force you to drink.. And, it seems, you don't, even though, you say, you are thirsty....

So my note, and my planned Internet Kindergarten may be a solution for some... I won't kid myself that it is for everyone... but for the ones that if you put their snout into the water, they wake up, they say "water" and start drinking it...
